S-T+ NEARBY NEIGHBORHπŸ‘€D WATCH MEETING NOTES!

Posted on 03/26/2025

22 attendees heard Senior Lead Officer (SLO) Gloria Caloca (Tujunga) run a lively meeting. Sunland SLO Wil Godoy was unable to attend. Ricardo Flores and Arthur Javadyan updated us on CD7's activities.

CRIME and STATS!

SLO Caloca reported that Tujunga’s “Part 1” (serious) crimes are down from 48 last month to 44. That's -8.3%.

Sunland’s Part 1 crimes dropped from 88 down to 68, or -22.7%!

LA County’s new tough-on-crime (reportedly) District Attorney Nathan Hochman will soon meet our Foothill Division execs and officers to trade strategies and concerns. We'll watch for appropriate criminal sentencing.

A burglar who stole a slew of laptops in Tujunga was picked up for that theft and an outstanding warrant. He was out on bail next day due to “Magistrate Review," a Los Angeles legal loophole that allows the magistrate (judge) to decide. Suspect has as court date. Say a prayer.

β›Ί Jennifer is no longer on S-T's streets and has been getting "the help she needs" for a couple of weeks now.

β›Ί Patrick had blocked a Plainview corner and was arrested at 8:15am the day of this meeting. CD7, LAPD and Sanitation converged. Patrick physically resisted, requiring LAPD’s use of moderate force. He was booked on an old warrant plus new charges, and his area was totally cleaned up!

β›Ί Richard, an unhoused person, underwent a cleanup the morning of the meeting.

Clean-ups eat up officers' time because LAPD MUST meticulously document homeless people’s possessions before storage. Otherwise, opportunistic attorneys can construe clean-up as property theft.

β–Ίβ–ΊPLEASE report sites of frequent πŸš₯red-lightπŸš₯ traffic violations and other vehicular crimes to Traffic Officer Sal Venegas at [email protected]. Please INCLUDE most likely hours of infractions. Don't say "All day!"

The abandoned and shabby πŸ›–Masonic Lodge on Valmont has been reported to Building and Safety for its encampment and other violations. LAPD has reached out to owner for directions. Since then, more graffiti has appeared.

Apperson had an πŸƒπŸŽ²illegal casino🎲🎰; now closed. Apparently, one person commits these repetitive violations. But casinos increase foot traffic, so nearby businesses may not report events that attract customers. Oddly, most casino customers are not local residents.

A December break-in report on Tujunga Canyon Blvd. led to officers busting an in-home casino!

πŸ’ƒπŸ½πŸ•ΊπŸ½Gypsies, aka "Travelers" are running a scam in San Fernando Valley that starts with asking a favor of you, then telling you a long tale—while someone in their midst takes your stuff. One resident said her dad was handed a real baby to begin a pickpocketing attempt!

Officer Caloca hopes to bring a CBD😜 registration expert to our next meeting. Do we have more than our share of such outlets?

🍷Proceedings had stalled on an unhoused stabbing involving alcohol🍻, due to uncooperative witnesses. πŸ“―But🎺recentlyπŸ₯, very clear video surfaced, and the detective can now file charges! That πŸ€ video came from a dash-cam!🚘

β–Ίβ–Ί CD7’s RICARDO FLORES reported that LA will have an entirely revamped, faster and simplified πŸ“±MyLA311πŸ“² starting Saturday, 28 March, to better connect you with nearly all city services.

You must πŸ”ŒDE-INSTALL your existing MyLA311 app, then install the updated one from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Our CD7 case worker, Arthur Javadyan, has been beta-testing the new one and suggesting improvements!

MENTION the cross street or other location descriptor! Ricardo emphasized that reports of dumping and homeless issues MUST include HONEST descriptions and make the address crystal clear. Take photos if possible. Too often, he reads exaggerated reports online, then only minor issues when he arrives. Remember the parable?  πŸ‘¦πŸΌ πŸ“£ "🐺"

A resident complained her nearby street signs are so old they're illegible, which she has reported many times. Ricardo agreed it was important and will follow up.

He added that many "TC's"—Traffic Collisionsaren’t reported to LAPD. If there's only property damage—and no injuries—LAPD may not take a report, as they're down too many officers. So collect all drivers' info and report it online. LAPD's online report capability is EASY to find in a search!

Even without injuries, LAPD may take a report when debris doesn’t match participants' reports. Tsk, tsk!

πŸ—žοΈIn Very Good CD7 News, Verdugo Hills Pool🫧 renovations are nearly finished! It will now remain open all year round! Some lanes will be dedicated to laps and swim practice; the rest to swim lessonsπŸ’¦, exercise classes, and play🀽🏽‍♀️!
