Community Tree Mulching
On Saturday, February 19th, 2022 from 8:30 - 11 a.m., there will be a Sunland-Tujunga Community Tree Mulching event held with participation by the Crescenta Valley Group of the Sierra Club, Ralph's Market in Sunland, and Tree People. We will be mulching and watering about 60 trees along Foothill Boulevard in Sunland (between Ralphs and Vons). Anyone who wants to participate can also adopt the trees they mulch for future watering. Our event begins at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Ralphs Shopping Center (by the now closed Sizzler). We will be providing mulch and Ralphs will be providing water for your tree. There will be a training at 8:30 a.m. by Tree People ambassador Xiomara Duran on how to properly set the mulch around the tree base. Volunteers need to watch the instruction before they will be assigned a tree.
What to bring: Please also bring two 5-gallon buckets to carry mulch and a watering can, a hand rake or spade, gloves, a face mask, and a safety vest, if you have one. You are also welcome to bring soil from your garden, compost from your compost bin, or a bag of soil to nourish your tree.
ALL NEIGHBORHOOD & CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND!!! We also expect participation from local area gardening groups. Our event will last as long as it takes to get sixty trees mulched. Please register in advance to:
[email protected], so I can gather your contact information. We hope to have 50 or more people attend so plan to arrive early or by 8:30 at the latest. Thank you, in advance, for your community participation!
