Dear Neighbors,
The STNC Elections cycle has begun. This time we are sharing our election day with 8 other
neighborhood councils throughout the northeast valley and we are
known as "Region B". The Los Angeles City Clerk will administer
all details related to candidate filing and
qualifications, voter qualifications and election day ballots. If you have any questions or
need more information, please contact the STNC office at
818-951-7411. Ed Rock, STNC office manager is available weekdays in
the mornings. You can also email him at office @stnc.org. If you
would like to help with the STNC elections by volunteering your time
to arrange events, refreshments, candidate forums or to be a
pollworker on election day, please ask Ed and he will get you signed
up or refer you to the person or office for assistance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ's)
Q: How do I run for the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council Board?
Step 1 : Review the STNC Elections Procedures and Candidate Filing
Packet. These PDF documents consist of several pages and many
questions can be answered by reviewing these documents. Fill out a
Candidate Application Forms which are within the Candidate Filing
Packet and submit to the Los Angeles City Clerk by 5 p.m. on January
26, 2010. Note: deadline is that City Clerk must receive by this
date and time, not postmarked. If you have difficulty downloading
these documents, contact Ed Rock, STNC office manager at
818-951-7411 for a copy.
Step 2 : Attend the January 13, 2010 STNC Board Meeting and any Candidate
Information Meetings to ask questions, meet other candidates and
current board members.
Step 3 : After your Candidate Filing has been confirmed by the City Clerk,
you may begin campaigning. The point: Let everyone know you are
running for a seat on the STNC board.
Step 4 : Participate in the Candidate Forums and Events to meet with voters.
Step 5 : Encourage neighbors to vote on Election Day, March 27, 2010
between 1 - 7 p.m. at North Valley Neighborhood City Hall, 7747
Foothill Blvd., Tujunga.
Q: Where do I get the forms?
A: See above, check the bottom of this page, or call the STNC

Q: How do I submit the forms to the City Clerk?
A: Send to the City Clerk by fax, mail or in person to:

A confirmation will be sent out by mail, from the City Clerk,
immediately after the candidate is qualified.
Q: What is the term of office?
A: The current STNC Bylaws define a term of office as one year.
However, with the recent changes and the City Clerk administering
neighborhood council elections, the term is two years.
Q: Are there any commitments?
A: You are committed to attend each Monthly General Meeting. In
addition, you may help the community by serving on one or more of
the STNC committees, as a committee member or possibly chairing
standing or ad-hoc committees.
Q: Are there any opportunities?
A: The sky's the limit. You have the opportunity to represent the
stakeholders of our community to the City of Los Angeles, in an
advisory capacity, as an STNC board member and to effect needed
changes to improve the quality of life in Sunland-Tujunga.
Q: Who is administering the STNC elections?
A: The Los Angeles City Clerk. This is the first time the City
Clerk has administered our STNC elections. This change in elections
process came out of the Neighborhood Council Review Commission's
recommendation and subsequent City Council approval.
Q: How can I find out who's running for the STNC board?
A: Contact the Public Services first at (213) 978-0444. The
procedures state that the City Clerk will post the names after
candidate filing.
Q: I only want to vote -- how do I do that?
A: Voting day is on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at North Valley
Neighborhood City Hall, 7747 Foothill Blvd., Tujunga between 1 p.m.
and 7 p.m. Bring some form of ID to verify stakeholder status in
the Sunland-Tujunga community. See Elections Procedures for more
details.
